For many of us, that once a week wash day has become something of a chore. The hours spent detangling, washing, conditioning and styling have added an exhausting activity to our already busy lives.
We've been there. Trying to frantically get everything done the Sunday night before school, college or work. Popping a headwrap on half way through when life gets in the way. Cursing the LOC/LCO method out as your own hair slices your finger up like a papercut.
Sometimes wash days are not the one, and that's ok.
We've put together some quick tips / advice to make wash days go faster without compromising on your hair care.
Get someone else to do it
For those of us who really cannot be bothered, and have a certain amount of disposable income, you can literally get your favourite beauty pro to sort this for you. With their quick fingers and skill, your wash day will become your wash "half an hour".
Not every (wash) day is deep condition day
Sure our kinky, curly and coily hair needs moisture. And thick conditioners are full of the good stuff needed to give your curls the smooth, strong feel. However, whilst a lot of people deep condition every washday, it is not necessarily a must. If you don't regularly engage in abrasive activities like swimming, adding heat to your hair regularly or even dyeing it, you can get away with not deep conditioning your hair quite as regularly.
Save those precious minutes, sis.
Co-washing is also an option
Co-washing; the marmite of the natural hair movement. Whilst some naturalists swear by this method, others swear against it. But truly, whether it works is still up for discussion and really depended on a person by person basis. Co-washing is the process of washing (cleansing) your hair with conditioner rather than shampoo. One of the key benefits of this being that it doesn't remove the natural oils from your hair when cleansing it. If your hair regularly feels stripped after your wash, try co-washing and let us know how it feels. Co-washing can be a great way to clean your hair whilst also leaving it feeling healthy and smooth.
Not to mention, halving your wash day time by removing the need to wash with shampoo is definitely a win.
